										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Who doesn&#8217;t love and Old Fashioned?</p>
<p>This cocktail covers a long storied past starting in the 1800s.</p>
<p>I have finally started to develop my own recipe based on the flavors I love.</p>
<h1>Old Fashioned Cocktail Mix</h1>
<h2>Ingredients</h2>
<p>3 cups water</p>
<p>1 1/2 cups sugar</p>
<p>1 1/2 cups brown sugar</p>
<p>3 or 4 clementines or other oranges, peeled and chopped</p>
<p>5 or so cherries</p>
<p>1 cinnamon stick broken up into chunks</p>
<p>6 all spice cloves</p>
<p>2 tbls of angostura bitters (to taste)</p>
<h2>Instructions</h2>
<p>Bring the sugars and the water to a light boil.</p>

<p>Remove from heat.</p>
<p>Add everything but the bitters to the pan, cover and steep for at least one hour.</p>

<p>Strain then add the bitters.</p>
<p>Put into container(s) and store in fridge.</p>

We picked the top three, I went and bought a bunch of ingredients and then made them. See the picture from the previous post.</p>

<p>&#8220;It’s August and time for a new listener challenge! Grab your handy Bartender Book of Rules because in this challenge you will be creating a special cocktail inspired by the Life In A Kilt Podcast.</p>

<p>The ingredients are all up to you, just make sure it’s delicious and Life In A Kilt Podcast inspired! And of course your drink’s unique name should let everyone know where you got your inspiration. As a reward, you’ll receive a free Life In A Kilt Podcast cocktail glass and your recipe will get it’s own special spot on “Doug In A Pub,” the premier online destination for cocktail lovers.</p>
<p>The rules are simple: Send in a cocktail recipe you design, inspired by the Life In A Kilt Podcast. The drink can be as simple or as complicated as you wish. Cocktails may be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. All drink recipes will be listed on the Life In A Kilt Podcast social media sites. At the end of the month, expert mixologist Doug In A Pub will choose three top winners based upon Facebook likes as well as potential for deliciousness. After making and drinking each beverage, a winner will be chosen by Doug In A Pub himself after which he will promptly publish the grand prize cocktail recipe on the Doug In A Pub website! You may enter as many recipes as you desire. Deadline for entry is 11:59PM August 31, 2017 at midnight EST. Judges decisions are final. It is my goto daily bourbon. Great straight or with a wide variety of mixers.</p>
<p>As mentioned on the <a href="http://lifeinakiltpodcast.com/">Life in a Kilt Podcast</a> today, here is the recipe. Stolen directly from Maker&#8217;s Mark, because why mess with perfection.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.makersmark.com/cocktails/juleps/makers-mark-mint-julep">Mint Julep</a> is a classic and it does not need to be derby time to enjoy one.</p>
<p>Also, everyone should know how to make a simple syrup. It is the base for so many good cocktails. And you can flavor it with just about anything.  You should always have some in the fridge.</p>

<li class="ingredient">1-1/2 parts Maker’s Mark<sup>®</sup> Bourbon</li>
<li class="ingredient">Fresh mint</li>
<li class="ingredient">2 tablespoons simple syrup* muddled with mint</li>
<li class="ingredient">Splash of distilled water</li>
<li class="ingredient">Powdered sugar</li>
<li class="ingredient">Mint sprig for garnish</li>
</ul>
<h4>For the simple syrup.</h4>
<ul class="ingredients group">
<li class="ingredient">1 cup granulated sugar</li>
<li class="ingredient">1 cup distilled water</li>
</ul>

<ol class="recipe-instructions">
<li>For simple syrup, add 1 cup granulated sugar to 1 cup water in a saucepan. Heat to dissolve sugar, stirring constantly so the sugar does not burn. Set aside to cool.</li>
<li>Mix together simple syrup muddled with mint, Maker’s Mark<sup>®</sup> Bourbon and distilled water.</li>
<li>Fill glass with crushed ice and pour mixture over top.</li>
<li>Sprinkle top of ice with powdered sugar.</li>
<li>Garnish with a mint sprig.</li>
