Maker’s Mark Mint Julep

I am a huge fan of Maker’s Mark. It is my goto daily bourbon. Great straight or with a wide variety of mixers.

As mentioned on the Life in a Kilt Podcast today, here is the recipe. Stolen directly from Maker’s Mark, because why mess with perfection.

The Mint Julep is a classic and it does not need to be derby time to enjoy one.

Also, everyone should know how to make a simple syrup. It is the base for so many good cocktails. And you can flavor it with just about anything.  You should always have some in the fridge.

For the simple syrup.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup distilled water

Instructions

  1. For simple syrup, add 1 cup granulated sugar to 1 cup water in a saucepan. Heat to dissolve sugar, stirring constantly so the sugar does not burn. Set aside to cool.

  3. Fill glass with crushed ice and pour mixture over top.
  4. Sprinkle top of ice with powdered sugar.
